Dr. Ramstead’s Story
Dr. Cory Ramstead is from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, and started his medical journey at the University of Saskatchewan, entering medical school after just two years of undergraduate study. Excelling in his studies, he graduated with distinction and went on to complete a five-year Ophthalmology residency at the University of Alberta. Eager to hone his surgical skills further, Dr. Ramstead pursued a fellowship in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of British Columbia.
Certified by the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada and the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Ramstead is recognized for his expertise in both Canada and the United States. His commitment to advancing the field is evident through his participation in research projects, with findings published in prestigious journals such as the Archives of Ophthalmology and the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology. Notably, he scored in the 99th percentile on the Ophthalmic Knowledge Assessment Program (OKAP) exam in North America during his final year of residency.
Dr. Ramstead’s dedication extends beyond the clinic. He is constantly updating his knowledge on the latest surgical techniques and personally follows up with patients to ensure they receive the best care possible. His meticulous attention to detail and compassionate approach to patient care highlight his commitment to excellence. As a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia, he serves as an inspiring mentor to medical students and residents. Since 2016, he has led the Division of Ophthalmology across three regions within Island Health.
When not in the office, Dr. Ramstead enjoys exploring the trails of the Cowichan Valley, where he’s an active member of the local running club, the Ceevacs. An enthusiast of wake foiling, running, and spending quality time with his wife and three children, he finds balance between his professional and personal life.
